Product & Quality
Matcha is a type of green tea made by grinding specially grown tea leaves into a fine, vibrant green powder. It’s traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies but is now enjoyed worldwide for its taste and health benefits. Unlike other teas, matcha is mixed directly into water or milk, so you drink the whole leaf. This gives it a smooth texture, rich flavor, and more nutrients.
Matcha and regular green tea come from the same plant, but they’re grown and prepared differently. For matcha, the tea plants are shaded for several weeks before harvest, which boosts chlorophyll levels and increases the content of L-theanine. This process gives matcha its vibrant green color and rich, umami flavor. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried, and stone-ground into a fine powder—so you consume the entire leaf.
In contrast, regular green tea leaves are grown in full sun, harvested, and steeped in hot water, then discarded. As a result, matcha offers a stronger taste, more antioxidants, and longer-lasting, more balanced energy.

Matcha has about 30 mg of caffeine per teaspoon—much less than the 150 mg in an average 8 oz cup of coffee. Thanks to the presence of L-theanine, the energy from matcha is smooth and sustained, without the jitteriness or crash.
Matcha is graded based on the season of harvest, as well as its color, aroma, texture, and flavor. Each harvest reflects natural changes in the tea leaves throughout the growing season:
First harvest (spring): Produces tender, shade-grown leaves with a vibrant green color and a smooth, mild flavor that’s slightly sweet and rich in umami.
Second harvest (early summer): The leaves have a brighter, more vegetal flavor with a bit more astringency. Color remains green, though slightly less vivid.
Third harvest (fall): Yields a stronger, more robust flavor with earthier notes and a duller green tone. The texture is a bit coarser due to the maturity of the leaves.
